Four more of our Office 2010 feature videos were posted to YouTube yesterday. I published the same videos to GetSharp a short while ago...

Two of the videos showcase Office Mobile capabilities, part of Microsoft's effort to make the Office clients available on mobile devices. There are two more Office Mobile videos and a few other Office 2010 videos still to come...

Microsoft posted another of our Office 2010 feature videos—about Excel 2010 slicers—on YouTube yesterday. I subsequently published it here on GetSharp. If you are interested in seeing improved filtering functionality for PivotTables or cube functions in Excel 2010, check out this video.

As I have been saying for the past few months, there are still more of these feature videos to come...

Microsoft posted four more of our Office 2010 feature videos on YouTube yesterday, with each one showcasing a different application. I published the videos to GetSharp earlier today...

Excel 2010 Conditional Formatting

You might notice that the SharePoint Workspace video is a little longer than most of the other videos we have posted thus far. With SharePoint Workspace being new (well, a newer version of Groove), it was felt that more context was needed for the user to understand what was happening in the video.

There are still more of these feature videos to come...

Last year we worked with Gary Devendorf to create a two-day training course about 2007 Microsoft Office system interoperability with Lotus Notes 7. The course was geared toward Notes developers and had sessions about Visual Studio 2005 and Domino Web services, ASP.NET, the Open XML Formats, InfoPath, Access, and Excel, to name a few.

For the next month or so we will be working with Gary again to upgrade the materials. The new training course will still use Lotus Notes 7, but we will convert the Visual Studio 2005 projects to Visual Studio 2008 and add new content for subjects such as the Business Data Catalog, InfoPath Forms Services, custom workflows, and mobile development activities. Gary will be providing training updates on his blog. For more interoperability information, check out the InteropTips Community Site for developers of .NET and Lotus Notes applications.

Vista and Office Beta Experience Newsletter

3Sharp gets some nice exposure in the MSDN Windows Vista and Microsoft Office Beta Experience Newsletter. In Issue 6, some of the 2007 release hands-on labs that we originally developed for PDC05 are listed. They are available as Beta 2 virtual labs on MSDN.

In addition, it appears that Issue 5 has been updated to include the building permit application solution that I started writing about in June. Like the virtual labs, this hands-on lab is also set up for Beta 2. There is a download available that includes the database, form template, and data connection files used in the solution. Unfortunately, there are no setup instructions included with the lab. So, if you run into any problems, feel free to drop me a line.

Microsoft continues to get a lot of mileage out of the 2007 Microsoft® Office release hands-on labs that we originally developed last September. At the Microsoft Office System Developers Conference 2006, to be held March 21-23 in Redmond, WA, you can play around with the same labs that I described in previous posts for PDC05 and TechReady2. This time around, we even added a lab that focuses on workflow functionality. So, if you are looking for some hands-on experience with the 2007 release, check out some of these labs (HOL05 and HOL11-HOL21).

Developing End-to-End Solutions in Office "12"

As part of the Information Worker track, I will be presenting an instructor-led lab at TechReady2 next month in Seattle:

IWIL300 Building and Configuring end-to-end Solutions in O12 With Minimal Code, Thursday, January 12, 2006, 1:00pm-2:15pm

IWIL300R Building and Configuring end-to-end Solutions in O12 With Minimal Code, Thursday, January 12, 2006, 2:45pm-4:00pm, a repeat of the 1:00pm session

In the abstract the session is described as a demonstration of "how a complex solution can be created leveraging multiple components of Office System". More specifically, this lab uses new development features in Excel, InfoPath, and Office Server to illustrate an end-to-end building application permit workflow. The most impressive highlight is the fact that not a single line of code was written to develop the solution. Apparently, we have come a long way since the three man-years of development time and more than 20,000 lines of managed code it took to build the FabriKam 3.1 Solutions Learning Platform with Office System 2003.

For those of you attending TechReady2 next month in Seattle, you can see some of our work in the hands-on labs that relate to Office "12". The 3Sharp staff again worked with Scott Jamison to refresh many of the pre-beta labs that we developed for PDC05. These Beta 1 labs are centered on the new development features of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and InfoPath. We also updated the lab that shows how you can access Groove Web Services 2.0 in a Windows Forms application. So, if you are looking for some hands-on experience with Office "12" or Groove, check out some of these labs (IWHOL301-IWHOL308 and IWHOL316).

Unfortunately, many of the 3Sharp resources (myself included) will not be in Los Angeles next week for PDC05. However, for those of you who will be there, you can see some of our work in the hands-on labs that relate to Office "12". The 3Sharp staff worked closely with Charles Maxson and Scott Jamison to develop 11 labs (each about 20-30 minutes in length) centered on the new development features of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and InfoPath. We even had a hand in developing content for a Groove lab. So, when you are not busy attending sessions, check out some of these labs.
