Managing public folders in Exchange 2007

In general, I love Exchange 2007. I love Exchange 2007 with a love that is brighter than the aggregate IQ of a science fiction convention and stronger than the body odor of the RPG section of that same convention[1].

However, one area of Exchange 2007 that I don't love is public folder management. It is a downright shame that the best interface for managing public folders in Exchange 2007 remains the Exchange 2003 System Manager. Creating a simple public folder in the Exchange Management Shell isn't a problem, but the docs are very weak on practical, usable examples of everyday tasks like adding and removing replicas to existing public folders, or working with the system public folders.

There is a great need for an "Exchange 2007 Administrator's Guide to Public Folders." Unfortunately, I don't see it happening any time soon.

[1]I used to be a freelancer in the RPG industry and I've spent my share of time at conventions. I've even run games at conventions, so I get to make this joke.

This is probably going to be the biggest obstacle to me adopting it here. I use a whole bunch of public folders, not all of them easily convertible to SharePoint, et. al.

(Well, that, and finding money for a 64-bit server, after finding a job to get money, after the USCIS finish processing the visa to get the job, but that chain aside...)

I am suprised that you haven't come up with a way to use PowerShell to manage those pesky public folder in Exchange 2007. I would have thought that when MSFT developed Exchange 2007 that they would have intigrated or at least inproved the Exchange 2003 System Manager to use with Exchange 2007.

Oh, there are lots of PowerShell commands for managing public folders, but there's no clear documentation on how to use them to actually perform real tasks. I'll be muddling through it and figuring it out, but it would have been nice to have more direction.

This is intentional in order to get people to move to Sharepoint. Public folders need to become a pain in the ass, this means no GUI and no adequate docs.

Sorry!
